Abstract

Allah has created the male and the female to beautifully bestow the human beings a happy life, joyous comfort and mutual support. This bond sanctified through Nikkah also leads to the procreation of children. Nikah is a mutual consent between the groom and bride to remain loyal to each other which equally necessitates mutual love, social understanding, combined interaction and shared cooperation with each other. Both- the wife and the husband- have a great role to manage the affairs of the home, ensuring sustenance and upbringing of children. Although both have different duties, the wife's duty to manage the home, nurture children and counsel the husband is important and most discussed in society. One of the most significant duties of the wife is to suggest to her husband in different matters and cooperate with him. It is aptly said that behind every successful man, there stands a woman. Quran, Hadith and golden periods of the Muslim ummah are full of such examples and During these glorious periods, different female sahabiat were there who used to support and suggest to their husbands regarding the administration of home as well as religious and social issues. Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم himself used to consult with wives. And the wives of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم used to give suggestions to the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم in different domestic, religious, financial and social matters. This article cites and contains the different examples of the advisory role of wives to their husbands that are discussed in Islamic teachings.
